The story
Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend, Siphiwe Tshabalala has partnered up with Dream Drive to help launch the platform and celebrate a local cult classic, the Gusheshe.
As Dream Drive's ambassador, Shabba features in a short film titled 'Mission: Gusheshe' which not only captures the spirit of iThemba lamagumusha, but also launches it to space.
In the most cinematic way possible, the intro of the film sees Shabba reflect on car culture while driving around a customised red BMW 325i around Jozi's City centre, before it cuts to atmospheric physicist, Dr. Markus Geldunhuys.
The Meteorologist is joined by two of his colleagues in launching a 1:18 scale model of a bright green, Dream Drive-branded BMW E30 to a different stratosphere, using a 3000g altitude balloon, which took the pint-sized E30 to 35 kilometers above Earth.
The launch site was located in Beaufort West, and after the Gusheshe's 2.5-hour flight, the capsule descended 60 kilometers away, requiring an Dr. Geldunhuys and his colleagues to conduct a day-long search across multiple farms to find it.

Dream Drive offers South Africans a chance to win a car by participating in a skill-based challenge rooted in strategy.
Each month, players will be tasked to compete in a "spot the ball" game where they must accurately identify the ball's position in a high-resolution image.
Using tools like magnification and 'line of sight,' players get to test their luck being judged experts, as well as former footballers including Tshabalala himself, with the competition results being independently verified by law firms and auditors.
"Everyone has a dream car," says Shabba. "Turning that dream into a reality through Dream Drive is a gift. If you're skilled enough to outplay the other competitors, that dream car could be yours," added the former Bafana star, who will also be handing over the keys to the winner of the competition.
"Today, owning a car can feel more like a dream than a reality due to high interest rates and tough financing options. Dream Drive gives South Africans the chance to win the car of their dreams for as little as R11," says Matthew Chapman, the co-founder of Dream Drive.
The competition showcases a variety of 20 cars, including the 2024 Golf GTI, the Renault Kwid, and, of course, the revered BMW E30 325i. Players can enter multiple times for different vehicles.
