Clayton Daniels, who still hasn't decided whether he will hang up his boots or not going into the 2024/25 season, recently revealed his secret to having a long career.
Daniels, who parted ways with the relegated Cape Town Spurs earlier this year, sat down with Goal South Africa to speak about how he's stayed fit enough to play professional football as a 40-year-old.
Although he's currently without a club, Daniels is still in tip-top shape, but has already started thinking about life after retirement by reportedly attending coaching courses.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United and Maritzburg United hard man attributes his longevity to a balanced lifestyle, staying focused in-season and an unwavering routine.
"I think consistency, not only on the field of play but also off the field of play. To have a balanced lifestyle, you know. For me, your routine is very important. I think when I was younger found and developed quickly a routine," said the PSL veteran, adding:
"There's time to work and there's time to relax. It was every year, every season, when I'm in season, [I am] 200% focused. In off season I can spend time with the family, I can do what I like.
"For me, the consistency of your routine, to stay focused in season because you want to develop as a player you want to be better every year, every training. You go to training, wanting to improve and I think that's why I have played a long career," concludes Daniels, who made his PSL debut for Ajax Cape Town 17 years ago.
