The story
Michael Morton, the seasoned Cape Town Spurs midfielder, is nearing the twilight stages of what's been a 15-year career in South African football
At 35 years old has played for Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, AmaZulu and the now defunct Bidvest Wits in South Africa's top flight, finds himself edging closer to the end of his playing days.
In preparing for life after football, Morton has immersed himself fully into the ever-growing football content creator space, including a podcast where he's already interviewed former teammates; Dean Furman, Thuso Phala and more recently Jeremy Brockie and Daine Klate.
Morton revealed what drew him to create content around the beautiful game and the legendary footballers that inspired him to enter the media sector after retirement:
"I love the English Premier League, so guys that have stepped out of their careers I've been looking at, so what are these guys doing when they finish playing. Guys like Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Peter Crouch and Ben Foster, these are all guys who I loved watching as footballers but to see their journeys after football and the type content that they're putting out, I wish that content existed when I was a youngster coming through the ranks.
"Now that they're doing it based on the UK game, I thought like: 'I wish somebody would do this for the local game' and I thought let me dabble a little bit and as soon as I started doing it a little bit more, there was this massive response. So I felt if I could do something or replicate, or even to a small degree do what those guys are doing with the English game, then I'd love to do it because I wish that resource was there when I was growing up," concludes Morton.
