The story
Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have led the way with kit launches for PSL clubs, as the start of the new season looms.
Fans will be eager to suit up in their new jerseys as the 2024/25 season kicks off with the MTN8, when defending champions Orlando Pirates take on SuperSport United this Saturday, 3 August, while Betway Premiership is set to start on 14 September.
Defending league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns were the first team to unveil their new Home and Away kits by PUMA, titled "The Rise.Rule.Repeat," honouring the club's come-up (Rise), their trophies (Rule) and dominating local football (Repeat).
The kits are in the traditional yellow for Home and blue for Away, with an African inspired pattern featuring graphics of crowns and stars.
Sundowns' Home and Away shirts will be available from, 1 August 2024, with the Authentic Players Shirt priced at R1 599 and will only be available on PUMA.com and PUMA Retail Stores.
The Replica men (R1 199) Replica women (R1 099), and Replica kids (R999) will be available from PUMA's stores and website, as well as Sportsmans Warehouse, Totalsports, Studio 88 and other selected retailers.
The Buccaneers and adidas were next to launch sleek Home and Away jerseys, paying homage to the 'Father of Soweto', James 'Sofasonke' Mpanza, who was instrumental in forming Orlando Pirates in 1937.
As per the Pirates' press release, their new 2024/25 kits are rooted in the club's DNA, the Home jersey features a black base colour with red hues, described as "presenting a sleek and forward-facing aesthetic."
In celebration of club's culture and community, the green Away jersey symbolises diversity through colour. In terms of pricing, both Home and Away, men's and women's replica shirts cost R1 299 on adidas.co.za.
The Glamour Boys were the last of the Big 3 to present their 2024/25 strips, ushering the Soweto Giants' second year back with Italian sportswear brand, Kappa.
As per Chiefs' press release on the kits, they explained that the striped Home jersey pays tribute to the club's iconic jerseys of the past, with a "cultural reference to warriors' face paint, representing the indomitable spirit and history of Kaizer Chiefs over the last 54 years."
The black and gold Away jersey, has been described as a "sleek design featuring a geometric pattern, inspired by the Kaizer Chiefs logo."
Kappa also creatively incorporated the longest feather of the chief's warbonnet to create a "pinstripe-like pattern, symbolizing strength and unity," revealed Amakhosi's statement, adding: "This jersey pays homage to the Club's resilience and tenacity, while embracing a modern and stylish look."
The club mentioned that the Home and Away Replica jerseys will cost supporters R1 299 on the KC Digi Store and at various retail outlets, with Studio 88 pricing it at R1 199.
