The story
Former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu defender, Marc van Heerden, announced his retirement from professional football on Sunday, revealing plans to immediately transition into coaching.
The journeyman, who ends his playing career at the age of 36, also represented clubs such as AmaTuks, Stellenbosch FC, Chippa United and more recently, Cape Town City.
Van Heerden took to his social media accounts to announce his retirement, thanking his family, agent, clubs and fellow competitors for a memorable last 20 years:

The versatile van Heerden managed to score 19 career goals in nearly 300 appearances across all local and continental competitions for the aforementioned clubs he represented.
At a stage in his career, van Heerden was deadly over the dead ball and was able to produce moments of magic that he can fondly look back on.
