The story
Benedict Vilakazi, an early 2000s Pirates legend has urged Mzansi's brightest football stars to take their talents beyond the country's borders.
"Tso" as he's affectionately known is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of his era, with his star shining brightest in the black and white of the Buccaneers.
He scored over 50 goals for Ezimnyama Ngenkani during a successful eight-year spell before making the move to Denmark in 2007 to Aalborg BK.
Despite being part of Aalborg's Danish Superliga-winning side, Vilakazi lasted just one season in Europe before being lured back to the PSL to play for Mamelodi Sundowns.
Speaking on presenter Lindo Pep's SuperSport TV show, "Versus Extra" alongside former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns star Josta Dladla, Tso explained why the best local ballers should take the plunge and ply their trade overseas.
"Let me brutally honest, because of how life is now, go overseas and make money. You've seen how life is here at home, now it's time to go make money and when you come back, you can look after your family," said Tso, when asked if players should still take the risk of going to Europe despite not being guaranteed consistent game time.
"I see how our footballers grow here in South Africa, the mentality that's in our football now has changed in terms of our players being hungry to play, not necessarily wanting to play but wanting the money. It's all about, 'Yoh, if my contract doesn't get renewed next season, what's going to happen?'
"Look around, how many players sign a three-year contract, they play one season, then disappear the next season. That's why I'm saying, they must go overseas and make the money, so that they come back and look after their families
Lindo Pep also asked the Josta and Tso to name the best dressed player they ever played with:
