Gift Motupa handed the Buccaneers the lead after 10 minutes from the penalty spot, before Maritzburg leveled matters.
However, goals from Yasser Mugerwa and Jacky Motshegwa ensured Pirates came away with the three points.

SuperSport United came from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces in their MDC clash on Sunday afternoon.
Mgobhozi handed SuperSport the lead in the fourth minute, before Aces drew level in the 33rd when Judas Moseamed bagged his third of the campaign, however Morne Nel converted a penalty in the 53rd minute to secure the win for the visitors.
Bidvest Wits 1-1 University of Pretoria
Defending champions, University of Pretoria, missed the chance to go top, after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bidvest Wits on Sunday morning.
Wits took the lead 10 minutes into the second half when Luciano Van Heerden rifled home a long range effort past Ngubeni.
However, AmaTuks secured a point in the 72nd minute when Botshelo Mfulwane headed home Harry Edge's cross from the left flank.
