Chiefs Reserves Cap Off Disappointing Birthday Weekend

Chiefs Reserves Cap Off Disappointing Birthday Weekend

Kaizer Chiefs 0-1 Stellenbosch

Kaizer Chiefs got back to action on a losing note after they were edged 1-0 by Stellenbosch on Sunday afternoon at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

Cole Van Coller broke the deadlock for Stellies seven minutes before the half-time break and that was enough to secure maximum points as Chiefs did not come to the party.

The result capped off a disappointing birthday weekend for Chiefs, after the senior side lost to Sekhukhune United on Saturday night at FNB Stadium.

Orlando Pirates 3-1 Chippa United

Orlando Pirates had a perfect restart and went to the top of the table after thrashing Chippa United 3-1 on Saturday morning at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

Asanele Bonani gave the Chippa the lead with just seven minutes on the clock but Relebohile Rotomo pulled Pirates level soon thereafter.

Mohau Nkota gave the Buccaneers the lead midway through the first stanza and Cassius Spandiel secured the maximum points with 18 minutes remaining, as Pirates won their fifth game in a row.

Swallows 1-0 Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns re-opened their campaign on the back foot after a narrow 1-0 loss to Swallows on Sunday morning at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

Ian Makaringe gave the Birds an early lead and that proved to be the winner, as goalkeeper Thulani Mngomezulu put a Man of the Match performance to keep the Brazilians at bay.

AmaZulu 1-2 SuperSport United

SuperSport United returned to action on a winning note after edging AmaZulu 2-1 on Sunday morning at King Zwelithini Stadium.

After a goalless first stanza, Neo Rapoo, who had a cameo appearance for the SuperSport senior team off the bench on Saturday, broke the deadlock on the hour-mark.

Keenan Bezuidenhout doubled the lead for Matsatsantsa with three minutes remaining.

However, Usuthu gave United a scare after pulling a goal back in the last minute but the visitors held on to get back to winning ways.

TS Galaxy 3-2 Cape Town City

Cape Town City lost only their second game of the season after they were narrowly beaten in a five-goal thriller by TS Galaxy on Saturday afternoon at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

Banele Nkosi opened the scoring for Galaxy in the first five minutes but Rubein Bamana found the equaliser for the Citizens just before the half-time interval.

Nkosi restored the lead for the Rockets and completed his brace just two minutes from the interval but the Mpumalanga-based side was pegged back again shortly before the hour-mark after Luphumlo Sifumba found the back of the net for City.

The Citizens goalkeeper Luca Diana-Oliaro thought he had earned his side a point after saving Sanele Zulu's penalty in stoppage time but the spot-kick was retaken, as Zulu eventually snatched the winner for Galaxy.

Maritzburg United 1-1 Golden Arrows

Maritzburg United halted their four-game losing streak before the recess after playing to a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows in the KwaZulu-Natal derby on Saturday morning at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Sabelo Duma handed Arrows an early lead but Lindokuhle Sithole found the equaliser for Maritzburg shortly before the interval.

Sekhukhune United 1-1 Richards Bay

Richards Bay scored in the dying minutes to rescue a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United in the season re-opener on Saturday morning at Sak Steyl Stadium.

Following a goalless first stanza, Thabang Matasane eventually broke the deadlock for Sekhukhune just after the hour-mark.

However, Nkosikhona Ndaba snatched the equaliser for the Natal Rich Boyz in the dying minutes.
