Two Crucial Matches To Decide PSL Coach’s Future

Insiders have hinted on how crucial the next two matches could be for Morgan Mammila regarding his future as the coach of Chippa United.

Mammila returned to the Chilli Boys in June following his re-appointment as the head coach for the start of the 2023/2024 season.

The outspoken mentor, who is also capable in football administration, has led the Gqeberha-based outfit to four wins, six draws and four losses so far this season, with the team sitting ninth on the standings.

Well-placed sources have revealed that while management is pleased that the team isn't in relegation zone, there have been concerns in some of the matches where they felt points were dropped unnecessarily.

After managing to avoid relegation on the last day of the previous season, Chippa chairman Siviwe Mpengesi was in high spirits going into the current campaign as he promised a top-eight finish and success in cup competitions.

Chippa fell at the first hurdle in the Carling Knockout against Stellenbosch FC who have since reached the final.

"The next two matches will be crucial to guarantee Morgan Mammila's safety as the coach of Chippa United. Yes, the team won their most recent match (against Golden Arrows), but prior to that there have been concerns about inconsistent results," said the source.

"This league is so unpredictable for the majority of teams (except maybe for leaders Mamelodi Sundowns), and things can change quickly with one or two results that don't go your way and therefore consistency is key. The coach's progress will be evaluated again after the last two games of the year in planning for the second round," concluded the source.

Chippa will host Polokwane City at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium next Saturday before travelling to the Mbombela Stadium to face TS Galaxy in their last match of the year.
