Result: Chippa United 1-0 Marumo Gallants

Date: 17 September 2022

Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

Chippa made two changes to the side that beat AmaZulu, as Matome Mathiane and Thulani Mini were recalled while Gallants brought back Ayanda Nkili and Lucky Mohomi after a draw against Kaizer Chiefs.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa took the game to the Chilli Boys in the early stages as Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo forced a save out of goalkeeper Lloyd Kazapua from a shot out of the box.

Morgan Mammila's charges had their moments going forward as Mini came close to breaking the deadlock ten minutes before the half-time break with a curling strike that missed the top corner by a whisker.

As the game opened up, Ndlondlo had the best chance of the encounter thus far just before the interval after going through on goal but Kazapua made a crucial save to keep the score level at the interval.

Chippa made an attacking change at halftime as Ronaldo Maarman replaced Mini, with the substitute breaking the deadlock for the home side five minutes later with a thumping strike in the box from a quick counter-attack.

In response, Gallants made two changes around the hour-mark, as Ivorian winger Cheick Soumahoro got his debut in place of Katlego Otladisa for fresh legs and Letsie Koapeng replaced Junior Dion a couple of minutes later in a tactical switch.

Gallants were put Chippa under the pressure but the Chilli Boys had the best chances in the latter stages, as Maarman was denied the second goal by the upright from a set-piece.

Maarman had another big chance six minutes before time but goalkeeper Ismail Watenga pulled off a great save to keep the visitors in the game.

However, Gallants could not open up the Chippa defence in the dying minutes as the Chilli Boys held on to win two games in a row for the first time this season.
