Result: Otoho d'Oyo 0-0 Cape Town City (0-2 on aggregate)

Date: 18 September 2022

Venue: Alphonso Massembe Stadium

The Citizens made three changes from the first-leg win at Athlone Stadium, as Keanu Cupido, Mpho Makola and Wayde Lekay were recalled to the starting line-up.

Assistant coach Diogo Peral was once again on the touchline in the absence of Eric Tinkler, who does have the required coaching licenses for CAF competitions.

The South African side came into the second leg with a healthy two-goal lead thanks to goals Taahir Goedeman and Marc Van Heerden, who kept his spot in the side.

Keet was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half and he was called upon to keep the scores level at the midway point with a vital save in a one-on-one situation.

The Citizens were able to hold out until the halftime break, while Thabo Nodada went closest at the other end when his struck the woodwork.

Lekay did have a sight at goal 10 minutes after the break that was saved by the Otoho d'Oyo goalkeeper, as the striker still awaits his first goal.

The wait would continue for Lakay as he, Craig Martin, Makola and Nodada were hauled off for the final 25 minutes, as Khanyisa Mayo, Darwin Nunez, Thato Mokeke and Jordan Bender were introduced.

City were able to see off any attacks from the home side as the second half drew to a close, but the hosts were awarded a penalty in time added on although they were unable to profit as the visitors held on for the clean sheet to secure a 2-0 aggregate win.

The Citizens will face Angolan side Atlético Petróleos in the second preliminary round.

Here's how they lined up:

Cape Town City: Keet, Mkhize, Cupido, Fasika, Fielies, Van Heerden, Makola, Nodada, Ambina, Lekay, Martin

Subs: Mpandle, Mdantsane, Mokhuoane, Mayo, Goedeman, Mokeke, Bender, Darwin
