Cape Town City signing Thulani Serero could have returned home in time to audition for Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos ahead of the AFCON finals in December.
City officially announced the signing of Serero on Thursday, after he returned to the country following his stay in the United Arab Emirates.
The former Cape Town Spurs midfielder parted ways with UAE outfit Khor Fakkan at the end of last season but could not find a team abroad and returned home where it all began.

The 34-year-old became a stranger to Bafana Bafana call-ups since joining Emirati side Al Jazira in 2019, with his last game for South Africa coming five months after moving to the Middle East.
Broos has shown willingness to select players who show good qualities regardless of their club or age and the Belgian will now have a front row seat to watch Serero in action, who will still have to prove that he has not lost his touch.
"Thulani (Serero) before leaving South Africa, he showed us what football was, I remember even when I was playing against him, I would lose myself watching him," Lehlohonolo Majoro said on TimesLIVE Video YouTube Channel.

"Because he was doing things that you ask yourself if it was you, was I going to do that? And he has one thing similar to Themba (Zwane), they don't talk.
"They let them play in their game and do the talking, they are men of few words but their football speaks volumes," Majoro added.
Serero is one year younger than 'Mshishi' and has chances to revive also his Bafana career, if he has not lost his magic, just as Zwane, who is still evergreen for club and country, although currently out due to injury.
'Cream' has 43 caps for the national team.
