R20 000 Winner Aims To Keep Kids Off The Street

R20 000 Winner Aims To Keep Kids Off The Street

A Makause-based local football club will reap the R20 000 benefits as The SCORE ENERGY DRINK campaign aimed at football lovers who have identified a need in their local footballing communities, has a winner! Check it out!

In April, SCORE ENERGY DRINK launched a new campaign aimed at empowering fans of the beautiful game and their communities with the motto: "Zenzele! Do It Yourself!" and a winner has finally been revealed.

The Zenzele campaign honours those unsung heroes who put their time, efforts, knowledge, skills and even funds into their local football communities for almost very little in return.

The winner of the competition will have their local team kitted out in new gear or stand the chance to win other amazing prizes with SCORE ENERGY DRINK.

Dedicated youth football coach Sidwell "Razor" Makgatho is the first winner of the competition and won his team some new kits, equipment and balls!

Here's a closer look at the story behind Makgatho's local team and how he entered the competition:

Burning Stars is a junior football club founded in 2010. The club is based in Primrose, next to Makause informal settlement and is currently playing in the Germiston Local Football Association.

Coached by competition winner Makgatho and Thomas "Killer" Nqube, the majority of their players reside in the Makause area with the club's consistency seeing it attract players from as far as Germiston, Delport squatter camp and Marathon squatter camp.

The club's mission is to keep the kids off the streets, while developing them into better footballers. The team is relying on good Samaritans such as Makgatho to achieve this mission.

They are also looking for exposure so their youngsters can achieve their dreams of being professional players and have been given a welcome boost by winning the SCORE ENERGY DRINK's competion.

"I won this competition by buying the [Soccer] Laduma publication and followed the instructions until my submission was completed," says Makgatho.

"Within two weeks of my submission, I received an anonymous call with the good news that I had won R20 000 in kits, equipment, and soccer balls. I immediately contacted my fellow coach and announced that we will have a new kit for the tournament we will be participating in June.

"This is act of kindness will go a long way in motivating the young boys as most of they come from broken homes and have difficult financial situations. What SCORE has done for this team and all the others that they sponsor is monumental in shaping the future of our youth's tomorrow, one team at a time.

"We hope that there will be more competitions like these in future," concludes coach Makgatho.
