The virtual draw took place on Monday afternoon, where the final 16 teams were split into four groups.
The Buccaneers, who were finalists in this competition in 2013, were drawn in perhaps one of the toughest groups in the competition.
Pirates were drawn in group A, alongside Enyimba, ES Sétif as well as Ahli Benghazi.
Two of Pirates' opponents dropped into the competition, after being eliminated from the CAF Champions League. Nigerian outfit Enyimba qualified for the tournament after ousting their local counterparts Rivers FC, who beat Bloemfontein Celtic, on penalties.
Another side to have dropped down into the competition is Libyan outfit Al Ahli Bengazi, who secured their path to the last 16 courtesy of a win over Congolese side Motema Pembe.
Completing Pirates' group is current Algerian top-flight leaders ES Sétif, who qualified for the last 16 courtesy of a 2-1 aggregate win over Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.
