With Orlando Pirates having one foot in the CAF Confederations Cup final, the venue for this year's eagerly-awaited showpiece has been announced.
Following their 2-0 win over Al-Ahli Tripoli in the first leg of their semi-final tie in Libya on Sunday, the Buccaneers have put themselves in a favourable position to advance to the final if they complete the task in the return leg this coming weekend at Orlando Stadium.
In the meantime, CAF has confirmed that this year's Confederations Cup final will take place in Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
"CAF has today announced that Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria will host the 2021/22 TotalEnergies Confederation Cup final on Friday, 20 May 2022. CAF will confirm the kick-off time in due course," CAF confirmed in a statement on their official website.
"This is the first intercontinental major cup final to be hosted in Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Uyo is the capital of Akwa Ibom State – the home of Nigeria's Premier League side Akwa United. Last year (2021), the TotalEnergies Confederation Cup was hosted in Cotonou, Benin where Morocco's Raja Club Athletic beat Algerian side, JS Kabylie 2-1," reads the statement.
Meanwhile, DR Congo's TP Mazembe and RS Berkane of Morocco are the other two teams competing for another spot in this year's final.
