SuperSport made wholesale changes to the side drew with Cape Town City in the league, as only Gale Moralo remained, in a youthful line-up that had debutant goalkeeper Samukelo Xulu, with Shandre Campbell and Ime Okon not in the squad.
Matsatsantsa almost had a perfect start after just five minutes Selaelo Rasebotja had a header in the box saved by goalkeeper Oussama Benbot, following a cross by Tendamudzimu Matodzi.
As the game opened up, Abderrahmane Bacha finally broke the deadlock for Alger on 26 minutes with a strike from range.
The home side had another good opportunity on the stroke of half-time after Khaled Bousseliou forced a save out of Xulu in the bottom corner with a shot in the box.
Gavin Hunt's charges finally had a dream start in the second stanza after Matodzi levelled matters six minutes in with a strike from outside the box that found the top corner.
The game opened up after that and Abdoulaye Kanou restored the lead for the Algerian outfit 14 minutes before time with a strike in the box that found the bottom corner.
Alger denied SuperSport momentum in the dying minutes with stoppages and the hosts were reduced to ten men in the last minute after Zinéddine Belaïd got a second yellow card for a bad foul and was dismissed.
United finished at the bottom of Group A while Alger won the group en route to the quarter-finals.
