Result: Bloemfontein Celtic 0-2 Maniema Uion (2-2 on agg.)
Date: 05 December 202
Venue: Dr Molemela Stadium
Bloemfontein Celtic advanced to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Maniema Union on penalties.
The Free State outfit entered the encounter with a healthy cushion after bagging two away goals in the first leg last weekend.
With one eye on next weekend's MTN8 final, the likes of Jackson Mabokgwane, Ndumiso Mabena, Sifiso Ngobeni, Lucky Baloyi and Given Mashikinya were rested.
While Celtic bagged two first-half goals last weekend, it was the visitors who got the opening in the second leg after finding the back of the net in the 36th minute.
It got worse for the home side shortly after the break as Maniema Union doubled their lead in the 56th minute, making it 2-2 on aggregate.
The MTN8 finalists were unable to find one goal that would send them to the next round, ultimately forcing the game to a penalty shoot-out.
However, the Free State outfit held their nerve to triumph 3-2 in the shoot-out as they advance to the next round of qualifiers.
