Wits are venturing into new territory after qualifying for the group stages of a CAF interclub competition for the first time in their almost 100-year history, with Gavin Hunt having successfully qualified for the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup group stages.
In their first game they were pitted against group favourites, Horoya of Guinea, as they sought a winning start in Group C, but it was to be as Aristide Bance and Co. frustrated the Clever Boys and held out for a point despite having just 37% of possession.

Hunt's side had nine shots – though managed just one on target – and five corners over the course of 90 minutes, and their head coach was left disappointed not to have picked up their first win.
The group's other game between Djoliba of Mali and Al-Nasr of Libya ended 1-1 to put them both in the qualifying positions for now, but things are set to change once this coming weekend's games have been played as Wits travel to face Djoliba in Bamako.
