Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed why he doesn't mind coming second to Mamelodi Sundowns in their CAF Champions League group.
The Brazilians currently sit comfortably in first position and are yet to taste defeat on seven points. Behind them is Al Ahly and Al Merrikh, who both have four points although the Red Eagles head-to-head record puts them ahead of their Sudanese opponents.
Now, with Sundowns and Al Ahly set to square off in the return fixture, with the Brazilians having drawn first blood in Cairo, Mosimane says history favours the team that finishes second in the group, having previously won the competition from that vantage point.
"Of course, we want to win against Sundowns in South Africa. We want to beat Sundowns, but if you are number one in the group, does it mean you are gonna win the Champions League?" Mosimane asked journalists after their win this weekend.
"We won it twice in a row and we were never number one. But I like number one," he added.
Mosimane will be hoping that his side can transfer their rich goal scoring form in the Egyptian Premier League to the CAF Champions League, having largely struggled for goals in this competition.
