One of the best centre-backs to play for the Moroccan finalists was Noureddine Naybet, who is perhaps best known for his exploits in Spain, where he won a LaLiga title with Deportivo La Coruna at the beginning of the 21st century.
However, before he left for Europe, the Casablanca native spent four years playing for Wydad. The defender won three Botola Pro titles and also helped the club secure its first-ever CAF Champions League title in 1992.
Another winner of Africa's premier club competition whose exploits earned him a move abroad is Vincent Enyeama.
The Nigerian shot-stopper won back-to-back Champion League titles in 2003 and 2004 with Enyimba, who were only the second side to win consecutive titles at the time. He was also awarded player of the tournament honours on both occasions.
Following his victories over Ismaily and Etoile du Sahel in those finals, Enyeama went on to achieve great things, winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria and becoming the second most-capped player in the Super Eagles' history with 101 appearances.
