Former Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp has outlined how he encouraged and helped Bafana Bafana star Bongokuhle Hlongwane improve his performances.
Middendorp coached Hlongwane at the Team of Choice between November 2020 and January this year, when the striker signed for Major League Soccer side, Minnesota United.

Hlongwane was a hero for Mzansi last night after he scored a brace in the 2-1 win over Mozambique at the Mbombela Stadium.
Middendorp says he had to push the 22-year-old on certain aspects of his game help him reach the maximum level of performance.
"Yes, indeed Saniza was or is a player with great potential who understood finally after being pushed, that his way of achieving the maximum level of performance is in his own hands. Saniza started at a certain point to be aware of his strong and weak points, and he was willing to invest effort into practice and competition," said Middendorp, speaking to the Siya crew.

"Of course, with the transfer to the MLS team in Minnesota, Saniza experienced the next level of a more effective learning environment, the best with the best environment, and as we can see it ultimately has resulted in an increased capacity of performance. Great future," the coach concluded.
