With Nigeria set to take on Ghana in a titanic tussle for a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, one of their chiefs has vowed that the Super Eagles will "beat the s***" out of the Black Stars.
A West African rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria is set to resume on Friday night to determine which country will represent the continent in Qatar at the end of the year.
Both nations had underwhelming performances at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. The Black Stars were eliminated during the group stage, while the Super Eagles were knocked out by Tunisia in the second round of the competition – their earliest exit from the competition since 1984.
They will thus both be looking to avenge those performances by securing victory at the expense of their bitter rivals.
Nigeria sports minister Sunday Daye is optimistic about his country's chances of qualifying for a third successive FIFA World Cup.
"Super Eagles should just go all out. There is insurance for their legs now."
Since Nigeria's inaugural showing at the 1994 World Cup in the US, the three-time AFCON champions have only failed to qualify for the 2006 tournament in Germany.
Ghana, on the other hand, will be looking to make it to only their fourth World Cup, having qualified in 2006, 2010 and 2014.
