Mosimane, Ncikazi And four SA Players Nominated For Top CAF Awards

Former Al Ahly coach, Pitso Mosimane, and Orlando Pirates' Mandla Ncikazi have been nominated for the Men's Coach of the Year award at the 2022 CAF Awards.

The duo is among the 20 coaches who have been shortlisted for Africa's top coach accolade including renowned tacticans such as Carlos Quieroz (Egypt), Florent Ibenge (RS Berkane), Vahid Halilhodzic (Morocco), Walid Regragui (Wydad Athletic Club) and Aliou Cisse (Senegal).

Mosimane led Ahly to the 2022 CAF Champions League final where the Cairo giants were beaten 2-0 in the final by Wydad Casablanca. With that defeat Mosimane fell short of becoming the only coach to win the CAF Champions League title three times in a row.

Pirates co-coach Ncikazi also saw his side suffer defeat in the CAF Confederations Cup at the hands of RS Berkane

Ncikazi was the co-coach along with Fadlu Davids at Pirates but because of the CAF rules on coaching licenses, he is recognised as the head coach.

Mosimane and Ncikazi form part of five South African nominations for the prestigious awards honouring soccer on the African continent.

Meanwhile, Pirates duo of Bandile Shandu and Thembinkosi Lorch have been nominated for the Interclub Player of the Year award alongside Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile and Ahly's Percy Tau.

Shandu and Lorch played a vital role in Pirates' CAF Confed run to the final, while Shalulile led Sundowns' attack for the Champions League trophy but the Tshwane giants were knocked out in the queartefinal stages. Tau helped Ahly reach the CAF final, scoring three goals.
