Is the Lack of Transfer Activity Worrying for Manchester United?
It is no secret that Manchester United suffered a dismal 2021/2022 campaign. Star signings in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphaël Varane, and Jadon Sancho were supposed to launch Manchester United into a genuine title race and a realistic chance of trophies, but neither happened.Premier League rivals have already bolstered their ranks for the start of the 2022/2023 season. Manchester City has already signed the much-touted Erling Haaland and Julian Alvares from Riverplate, while Liverpool has acquired the services of the Uruguayan - born Darwin Núñez. Tottenham and Arsenal have also made eye-catching signings and are not showing signs of slowing down any time soon.New manager Erik Ten Haag is poised to start his preseason with no new players. He has to work with the same players that produced the worst point finish for any Manchester United side in the Premier League era. There have already been reports that Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy with the lack of ambition shown by the club during the transfer window, with murmurs of a move away from the fallen giant. Business done by United from this point will be playing catch up to their Top 6 counterparts.Suppose Manchester United hopes to initiate a rebuild and culture reset. In that case, they need to fully support and empower their new manager by allowing him to make the signings that fit his philosophy and style of play. Fresh faces need to be introduced into this Manchester United team as soon as possible, or Manchester United's problems could get worse before they get better.
