One of Manchester United's highest-paid players has revealed he sometimes feels embarrassed when representing the Red Devils out on the field.
It has been a difficult season for the 20-time English champions, who are currently facing a battle to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League campaign.
Goalkeeper David de Gea has been among those long-serving United players affected by the team's form, with the Spain international having cut a frustrated figure in goal for United and having previously made his feelings clear about the club's current level.
In a recent interview, the ex-Atletico Madrid shot-stopper candidly discussed how "tough" the 2021/22 campaign has been, admitting he has felt ashamed.
"Yeah, it's tough. For me, it's very tough," he told Sky Sports.
"I've been here many years and being out there on the pitch, I've been feeling down, it's too painful for me.
"I feel embarrassed, sometimes I feel… it's difficult to say, but I feel horrible on the pitch.
"This is why we have to change this mindset, do more and do more, and try to win games and be there in the top positions."
United played to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League with Chelsea on Thursday night, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his 23rd goal of the season to spare the Red Devils' blushes.
