Congratulations to Sakhumzi Mjolo whose emailed submission on 'living my best life – experiences rather than stuff' was selected by Capitec as the best story to come in from a Soccer Laduma reader.
Have a look at Sakhumzi's winning submission below.
"I remember that by the time Valentine's Day of 2014 came around, I was poorer than a church mouse, that R70 was all I had.
"Sensing the unease on my part, my girlfriend told me, "Don't worry. Let's just chill outside in front of my house and just chat the afternoon away because that will mean a lot to me. I know you will make me laugh and your jokes will be enough for me. I will sleep well because I love you and you are the person I want to spend the day with.
"These words should have been enough to make me smile, but sadness was killing me inside and I felt weak as a man, as I was supposed to spoil my woman. I couldn't take her out and we just bought 2 litre Coke and chips and sat outside her house. I don't know where the jokes came from, but what I know is that she laughed and screamed so loud that her cousin sister came out of her room to join us. Even though I was not on good terms with the cousin at the time, she enjoyed my jokes and we shared the cooldrink and chips. Looking back, we still joke about that day and I guess it's safe to say it's created a memory that can never be erased.
"The lesson that came out for me is that my girlfriend showed her unconditional love for me and that it shouldn't be about the money. The best things in life are free. As I'm speaking to you, I am learning to save the little I have for any financial problems that might creep in, in future.
Make sure you get this week's edition of Soccer Laduma to read the full interview. Once more, thank you to those who took the time out to send through their letters. We appreciate your support!
