Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard both netted for the second successive game as Belgium defeated Iceland 3-0 in their opening UEFA Nations League clash.
The Red Devils warmed up for the Nations League clash with a 4-0 thumping of Scotland last weekend, although Michy Batshuayi, who bagged a brace, failed to secure a start. Iceland, meanwhile, were looking to restore pride after they were thumped 6-0 by Switzerland in their opening group game over the weekend. After a shaky start, Belgium were awarded a penalty after a Birkir Bjarnaon committed a foul in the box, allowing Hazard to step up and convert the spot-kick in the 29th minute. The visitors did not have to wait long for the second goal as Lukaku scored for the second straight game with a close range finish on 31 minutes. The second half continued in the same fashion as the first, with Roberto Martinez's men dominating and creating chances, although Thomas Muenier and Jan Vertonghen failed to take advantage after the hour mark. Iceland went close to reducing the deficit after 70 minutes, but Gylfi Sigurdsson's effort from distance forced goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois into a superb save. However, Lukaku rounded off the scoring in the 81st minute, turning home Dries Merterns' cross to complete his brace as Belgium ran out 3-0 winners.
