Result: England 2-0 Finland
Date: 10 September 2024
Venue: Wembley Stadium
The Three Lions striker and captain Harry Kane made his 100th appearance, as he led the attack that had Jack Grealish, Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon.
Lee Carsley's charges started brightly and Kane found the back of the net midway into the first stanza with a header from a cross by Saka but the goal was disallowed after a long Video Assistant Referee (VAR) check for a marginal offside.
Finland had their moments going, particularly through Teemu Pukki but he could not compose himself in front of goal and wasted a few good opportunities.
With the game on the edge, Trent Alexander-Arnold almost broke the deadlock for England on the stroke of half-time with a direct free-kick from the edge of the box that dipped just over the crossbar.
The Three Lions came back from the break firing in front of goal and goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky was standing in the way for a breakthrough a number of times.
However, Kane finally broke the deadlock for England just before the hour-mark after he powered a shot into the roof of the net from an angled pass by Alexander-Arnold.
Carsley made attacking changes after 66 minutes, as Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze both came on for Saka and Gordon for fresh legs.
The changes by England made immediate impact, as Kane doubled their lead 14 minutes before time and got his brace with a first-time shot after a cut-back by Madueke.
The Three Lions managed the game well in the closing stages as they let Finland have the ball but in areas they were not dangerous, as Carsley's men made it two wins out of two games in League B2.
