UEFA Nations League Report: Croatia v France 06 June 2022

UEFA Nations League Report: Croatia v France 06 June 2022

Defending champions France remain winless in the UEFA Nations League after drawing 1-1 with Croatia on Monday night.

Result: Croatia 1-1 France

Date: 06 June 2022

Venue: Stadion Poljud

Hugo Lloris, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe dropped to the bench after the defeat to Denmark on Friday, Wissam Ben Yedder, Christopher Nkunku and goalkeeper Mike Maignan got the nod to start.

The Croatians looked lively in the early stages of the encounter, with Real Madrid star Luka Modric seeing a lot of the ball in the middle of the park.

Despite all of Croatia's dominance, chances were hard to come by at both ends, with both goalkeepers barely having to make a save in the opening 30 minutes.

That all changed shortly before the break, as Moussa Diaby went close to finding a breakthrough with an effort from distance that forced Dominik Livakovic to the tip the effort over the crossbar.

The two-time World Cup winners got the breakthrough seven minutes after the break when Adrien Rabiot turned home Ben Yedder's cross with a first-time finish.

That proved to be Ben Yedder's final involvement as he made way for Griezmann, while Boubacar Kamara replaced reported Real Madrid target Aurelien Tchouameni on 65 minutes.

Griezmann had the chance to double France's lead 10 minutes after his arrival, but his close-range strike was kept out by Livakovic at the near post.

Croatia were then given a lifeline with seven minutes left after being awarded a penalty through Jonathan Clauss' foul on Andrej Kramaric, who converted the spot-kick for a share of the spoils.
