Bayern Munich cruised to comfortable win in their opening match of the UEFA Champions League while late goals were the order of the day for the likes of CSKA Moscow and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Benfica 0-2 Bayern Munich
Goals in each half from Robert Lewandowski (tenth minute) and Renato Sanches (54th minute) handed Bayern Munich a rather comfortable 2-0 win over Benfica in a Group E match at the Estádio da Luz.
Ajax 3-0 AEK Athens
A brace from Nicolas Tagliafico helped Ajax Amsterdam get off to the perfect start in Group E with a 3-0 win over AEK Athens at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Tagliafico opened the scoring a minute into the second half before Donny van de Beek doubled matters in the 77th minute.
The icing on the cake for Ajax was Tagliafico's second goal in the 90th minute to hand the home side an impressive victory.
Plzen 2-2 CSKA Moscow
A 95th minute penalty from Nikola Vlasic saw CSKA Moscow draw 2-2 with Plzen at Doosan Aréna in their Group G match.
The home side squandered a two-goal lead after first half brace from Michael Krmencik gave them a firm advantage going into the break.
CSKA Moscow, though, showed real character to fight back with Fedor Chalov pulling a goal back in the 49th minute before a penalty late in stoppage time from Vlasic saw the match end all-square.
Shakhtar Donetsk 2-2 Hoffenheim
A late goal from Maycon rescued a point for Shakhtar Donetsk who drew 2-2 with Hoffenheim in their opening Group F match at the OSC Metalist stadium.
It was the perfect start for the visiting team with Florian Grillitsch giving Hoffenheim the lead as early as the sixth minute, but his goal was cancelled out by Ismaily in the 27th minute.
Havard Nordtveit gave Hoffenheim the lead again in the 38th minute after a precise header at a corner-kick, but again they surrendered the lead with Maycon finding the equaliser in the 81st minute to see the spoils shared.
