Date: 3 October 2018
Venue: Stadio San Paolo
A 91st minute goal from Lorenzo Insigne handed Napoli a 1-0 win over Liverpool in a UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday night.
The home side controlled the flow of play early on and came close to taking the lead in the 11th minute when Insigne latched onto a precise pass inside the box, but he fired his close-range attempt inches wide.
Five minutes later, Insigne was at it again after finding some space on the edge of the box, but his stinging shot shaved the wrong side of the woodwork.
In the 20th minute Liverpool suffered a bit of a set-back when Naby Keita had to leave the field through injury, and was replaced by Jordan Henderson.
The change did not help the English side at all as they remained on the back foot.
On the half hour mark, only a spectacular save from Alisson kept the scores level with the Liverpool keeper denying Arkadiusz Milik in a one-on-one.
The Reds offered very little in terms of attacking in the opening half and were lucky to get to the break with the game locked at 0-0.
Five minutes into the second half and Napoli were on the attack again with Milik trying his luck from 20-yards out, but his low effort was turned around the post by the fingertips of Alisson.
Liverpool finally started to find their footing midway into the second half, and Mohamed Salah should really have given them the lead in the 68th minute. The Egyptian latched onto a loose ball after a goalmouth scramble inside the box, but he slashed his effort wide with an empty goal at his mercy.
The English side's joy, though, was short-lived with Napoli back on the attack with a 16-yard shot from Dries Mertens striking the crossbar and bouncing away from danger.
Finally, in the dying seconds of the match, Napoli managed to snatch a winner when Insigne latched onto a pin-point cross from Jose Callejon and tapped home from close range to earn a crucial 1-0 victory for the Italians.
