UEFA Champions League
Result: Manchester United 0-0 Valencia
Date: 02 October 2018
Venue: Old Trafford
Manchester United had to settle for a point after they played to a goalless draw with Valencia in their second Group H clash in the UEFA Champions League.
Alexis Sanchez returned to the line-up for the Red Devils after missing out against West Ham United over the weekend.
Just as previous games gone by, United saw a lot of the ball in the early stages of the first half but they were unable to threaten the Valencia goal.
The visitors, meanwhile, showed a lot of promise on the counter attack, most notably down the left flank but they were let down by their decision-making in the final third.
Unfortunately, that was the trend for the rest of the half as the sides went into the break scoreless.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first, and United had to wait until the 60th minute for a sight at goal when Paul Pogba forced Neto into save with a free-kick from distance.
With the hosts struggling to carve out chances, Jose Mourinho withdrew Alexis Sanchez for Anthony Martial in the 76th minute.
Marcus Rashford went agonisingly close to getting a winning goal in the closing stages when his free-kick rattled the top of the crossbar.
That was to be the final opening at goal for the Red Devils, as the encounter ended goalless at Old Trafford.
