Arsenal Need Penalties To See Off Porto In UCL

Arsenal 1-0 FC Porto (4-2 on penalties)

Arsenal needed a penalty shoot-out to overcome FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League and advanced to the last eight on Tuesday evening.

Goalkeeper David Raya was the sole change for the Gunners from their win over Brentford, whilst Porto showed no changes from their weekend win over Portimonense.

The Premier League giants, who trailed from the first-leg, struggled to get settled in but were ahead just before halftime through a fine curling finish from Leandro Trossard.

Arsenal came very close to double their lead during the midway phases of the second stanza when Martin Odegaard sneaked ahead of Pepe to tuck in, but it was called back following an indiscretion.

With neither side able to take control and with the match level overall, extra-time showed to determine the winner however it remained level there too and it went to penalties.

It's the Gunners that emerged in the shoot-out, with Raya the main man after he saved two spot-kicks to lead them into the quarter-finals.

FC Barcelona 3-1 Napoli (4-2 on aggregate)

FC Barcelona progressed to the last 16 in dominant fashion with a 4-2 victory over two-legs against the Italian champions Napoli.

Xavi Hernandez's men took the lead in the opening stages with a well-weighted curling strike from Fermin Lopez from the narrowest of angles.

Former Manchester City and Bayern Munich defender Joao Cancelo doubled their lead later on when he pounced on a rebound off the post to tap in from close-range.

Napoli were eager to remain in the swing of things and got one back when Amir Rrahmani made a late run into the box and finished off a smartly drilled reverse pass.

However, the host took full control in the final stages as Polish forward Robert Lewandowski tapped in a cutback from Sergi Roberto to leave the Italian champions shattered and eliminated.
