Tuchel Explains Shock Kane Decision In Real Loss

Tuchel Explains Shock Kane Decision In Real Loss

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has explained his shock decision to substitute Harry Kane in his side's 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Following a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena last week, the semi-final second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday was always going to decide the tie between two of Europe's biggest clubs.

As Los Blancos struggled in front of goal, substitute Alphonso Davies netted in the 69th minute with a brilliant effort on his weaker foot to put the Bavarians in an advantageous position.

Bayern continued to defend well as Real pushed for an equaliser in front of a packed home stadium, with Tuchel choosing to take England's captain off with six minutes of normal time still to be played.

Four minutes later, the Spanish giants found the back of the net through Joselu to level the score on the night and on aggregate, before he struck three minutes later to send Real to their 18th Champions League final.

After Tuchel's decision to substitute Kane appeared to backfire, the German tactician explained that the 30-year-old needed to come off due to back pain.

"He couldn't keep going. He played with back pain and he couldn't keep going, his back froze up," he said, according to BBC.com

Kane finished his European campaign with eight goals in 12 matches, while he has scored on 44 occasions across all competitions this season.

The Three Lions skipper joined Bayern at the start of the campaign in a club-record deal from Tottenham Hotspur, penning a four-year deal in Germany.
