Check Out: Beckham Reacts To Messi Choosing Inter Miami
In what was a blockbuster announcement made in June, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner publicly declared he had chosen to take his career to David Beckham's Inter Miami following his free-agent departure from Paris Saint-Germain.
With his move, the ex-Barcelona captain will unsurprisingly become the league's best earner, with technology company Apple and world-renowned sports brand adidas said to have chipped in to make his arrival in the US possible.
According to Planet Football, it is estimated that the 36-year-old will be paid a weekly salary of around $1 057 692 (R20.1 million) in Florida, a wage that goes far beyond what any player has ever earned in the division's history.
Here are the 10 highest-paid players in the MLS following Messi's arrival:
His teammate Sergio Busquets, who he has reunited with in the US, will reportedly be the MLS' second-highest-paid star, with ex-Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri ranking third on the money list, as per the report.
More high-profile names feature in the standing, such as Toronto FC star Lorenzo Insigne and DC United's Christian Benteke, two players who previously plied their trade in Europe for Napoli and Crystal Palace, respectively.
Ex-Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is said to be the MLS' fifth-best-paid player as things stand, with the ranking potentially set to change amid rumours that more top footballers could follow Messi to America.
The likes of Eden Hazard, Andres Iniesta, Jordi Alba and Sergio Ramos have all recently been linked with the MLS, and specifically Inter Miami.
