De Ligt had been linked with United prior to his move from Ajax Amsterdam to Juventus in 2019, and now reunites with Erik ten Hag in England.
The Netherlands international became a regular under the Dutchman at the Eredivisie giants, making 70 appearances under his management in his home country.
Reports suggest that the 20-time English giants have parted ways with €45 million to land De Ligt's signature, with the club potentially set to spend a further €5 million (R100 million) in add-ons.
