With the Merseyside club's midfield department having been ravaged by injury this season, manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen to strengthen in the middle of the park.
One holding midfielder in particular who is said to have impressed not just the world in Qatar but Klopp too is Sofyan Amrabat.
The Fiorentina man emerged from the Gulf as one of the World Cup's brightest stars as he helped Morocco reach a historic semi-final.
The 26-year-old has grabbed the attention of many top European clubs over the past month as a result, but according to Moroccan publication Lions de L'Atlas, it is the six-time European champions who have a head start on everybody else in the race for Amrabat's signature.
Following reported talks between Klopp and the African star's representatives, it is suggested that the defensive midfielder would favour joining the English giants over any other club, including Tottenham hotspur, who have also been heavily linked with the player.
Two other World Cup stars, Argentina's Enzo Fernandez and England's Jude Bellingham, have also been heavily linked with moves to Anfield, but it seems those deals will only take place at the end of the season if they are to happen.

In the meantime, the Reds seem focused on acquiring Amrabat, with the Premier League outfit believed to be set to submit an offer to Fiorentina soon.
A hefty €45 million (R828 million) is said to be the figure that could get the Netherlands-born midfielder out of Florence, but the Viola's executive will have the final say as to whether he stays or goes in January.
