Messi Reacts To Reaching World Cup Final

Messi Reacts To Reaching World Cup Final

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has shared his first words after he helped inspire his national team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final following a 3-0 victory over Croatia on Tuesday night.

Messi Set To Sign PSG Extension?

The 35-year-old once again proved decisive as he scored and assisted in the Albiceleste's comfortable win over Luka Modric's Croatia, taking his goal contribution tally to eight in the tournament so far.

Messi, speaking in a post-match interview, reminded supporters of what he said following their shock 2-1 defeat to Herve Renard's Saudi Arabia in the Middle East last month.

"I feel many things, it's very exciting to see all of this," he told a reporter after securing a shot at redemption after losing the 2014 World Cup final to Germany.

"Seeing the people, the family throughout the World Cup was something incredible. We're going for the last game, which was what we wanted.

"After the first game (loss against Saudi Arabia), I asked people to trust us, because we know what we are capable of.

"Argentina will play in another play World Cup final! We have to enjoy it."

Messi and his colleagues will find out who their opponents in the final will be on Wednesday night, with Morocco and France set to do battle in the second semi-final.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward also reiterated that this year's World Cup is likely to be his last.

"It's my last World Cup. It's impressive to end up playing a final. There's a long way to go for the next one, there are many years and surely because of age I will not reach it," he added.

"I'm going to play my second World Cup final. Hopefully, this time, it ends in another way."

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has now scored 96 goals for Argentina since his senior debut in 2005.
