Benni Leaving Man Utd 'A Blow' For One Star

Benni Leaving Man Utd 'A Blow' For One Star

Amid rumours Benni McCarthy could leave Manchester United at the end of the season, an English publication notes his departure will be a significant blow for one of the team's star attackers.

In recent days, reports have suggested South Africa's all-time top goalscorer could part ways with the Red Devils when the 2023/24 campaign comes to an end.

McCarthy himself has discussed his future ambitions, admitting in an interview with YOU magazine that he would love to be the main man on the touchline again having previously experienced "the adrenaline of decision-making and leading".

Questions remain, meanwhile, over Erik ten Hag's position at the club amid a difficult season for United, though the Dutchman is still under contract in England until 2025.

English publication Daily Star, citing the Daily Mail, says McCarthy's potential exit from the 20-time English champions could be a bitter blow to Rashford, whom they note has benefitted from the coach's methods and advice.

The England international has discussed his working relationship with the ex-Orlando Pirates striker in the past, saying: "He's definitely helped me a lot. To have attack-minded coaches is good for us. He's always there speaking to us about these things".

Rashford achieved a career-best goal tally last season, form that coincided with McCarthy's appointment at United, as he netted 30 times across all competitions to help deliver silverware in Ten Hag's debut campaign. The outlet adds that "unfortunately for Rashford, he's failed to recreate his top form from last season".

United will go up against eternal rivals Liverpool in the quarter-final stage of the FA Cup on Sunday.
