Argentina's manager could reportedly be set to make a big decision on Lionel Messi following his most recent performance at the 2024 Copa America.
Reports suggest that the 37-year-old could miss out on the Albiceleste's match against Peru at the Copa America in their final Group A match on the weekend.
Messi played 90 minutes in their victories over Canada and Chile, but appeared to be suffering from an injury in their most recent game.
The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner confirmed he was struggling with muscle discomfort in his right leg after their win over Chile in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has since said he will be giving opportunities to the players who have barely featured so far, suggesting Messi and some other key stars could be rested.
"The players who have not had a chance to play in the first two games will get their shot," he told reporters, according to Inter Miami News.
"I need to evaluate them, and because they deserve a chance to play."
One of those in line for minutes is Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.
"We would love for him to play because he is a boy who gives us a very good freshness, but when you make the game plan he has the intention that maybe he can come in and then the game changes," Scaloni added.
"He still hasn't had the opportunity, but we hope to give it to him and that he can take advantage of it."
Argentina have already qualified for the quarter-final stage of the competition.
