After being ruled out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Paul Pogba has seemingly been blamed by Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri for his latest injury setback.
Argentina Suffer Big World Cup Blow?
After sustaining a knee injury in pre-season, it was believed that the 29-year-old midfielder had the option of undergoing surgery to ensure the knock did not persist, but opted against it so he could return in time for the World Cup.
In September, the Frenchman's agent publicly stated that his recovery was progressing smoothly and that he would be back to full fitness in time to be selected for Didier Deschamps' France squad.
However, in a big blow for both the World Cup champions and Juventus, it was revealed this week that the ex-Manchester United man had suffered a new setback that would keep him sidelined for a while longer.
Allegri has now admitted his frustration with the midfielder's situation, and seemed to suggest it was Pogba's decision to decide against surgery that has cost him.
"I spoke to him earlier. It's pointless repeating what has already been said," the Italian said, according to the Daily Mail.
"Once the decision was made not to have surgery at the start of the season, it was normal that hopes that he could return with Juventus and France were slim.
"He's sorry for Juventus and the World Cup, it's normal, we were penalised for not having him available."
Players Who Changed Nationality For World Cup
