Juve 'Identify' African Star As Pogba Replacement

With Paul Pogba's future at the club increasingly in doubt, Juventus have reportedly identified an African star to succeed the Frenchman in Turin.

Life back with the Bianconeri has gone from bad to worse for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.

The playmaker returned to the club from Manchester United last season, but barely played any games and missed most of the campaign due to a number of injuries.

While he was expected to return as a prominent figure in Massimiliano Allegri's side this season, that is becoming increasingly in doubt after he tested positive for endogenous testosterone after Juve's opening league game against Udinese.

The 30-year-old's contract with the record Scudetto winners is now in jeopardy, depending on the results of counter-analysis testing.

According to La Repubblica, in the event the Old Lady do decide to terminate Pogba's contract, the club has identified Arsenal's Thomas Partey as a top target.

The Serie A giants tried to lure the Ghana international to the Allianz Stadium during the off-season, but after failing to make progress over a transfer fee with the Gunners, the Italian club put a pause on their pursuit of the west African.

With the English side rumoured to have placed a €40 million (R809 million) price tag on the midfielder, the same report suggests that Partey and Juve already agreed personal terms during the latest transfer window, but meeting Arsenal's valuation, as well as convincing them to let go of one of their stars during the middle of the season, may be a difficult task.

In the interim, the Italian outfit could promote youth team star Joseph Boende to the first team while they wait until January to try and acquire Partey's services.
