Jose Mourinho is reportedly being pursued by the Portuguese FA following their shock elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup last weekend.
Mourinho Gives Verdict On Impressive Morocco WC Run
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Portuguese Football Federation is interested in replacing current head coach Fernando Santos with the Roma manager.
It is believed the Iberian country's football body would allow the former Manchester United and Chelsea boss to continue at Roma, having taken over at the Italian giants last season.
Mourinho's stance on accepting the proposal, should it arrive, is unknown at this moment, although ex-Portugal midfielder Maniche, who played under the 59-year-old at FC Porto, believes his ex-boss is perfect for the role.
"Jose Mourinho makes perfect sense for the position, for everything he has already conquered and has been conquering," he told Radio Renascenca.
"He has already been to the best clubs in the world, he has won titles in all of them and he lacks the national team.
"He is an experienced coach who is very prepared for difficulties because he knows our football and football abroad, he is intelligent and knows how to deal with young people. I think he would gather consensus to be a selector."
