Jose Mourinho's concerns over taking the Portugal job have reportedly been revealed following Fernando Santos' recent departure.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager has the opportunity to succeed Santos following A Selecao's disappointing 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The Roma boss emerged as a candidate for the position last week, with Santos having since officially parted ways with Portugal following discussions with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
It was claimed the country's footballing body would allow Mourinho to continue his job in Italy in a dual role, although it appears unlikely the 59-year-old would be interested in balancing both positions.
The tactician is said to be conflicted by the possibility of becoming his Portugal's next head coach over fears that he would struggle to adapt to the change of pace in international football compared to club football.
Mourinho has been working day-to-day in the sport since he joined Vitoria Setubal's coaching staff in the late 1980s, although he is still reportedly interested in the prospect of accepting the responsibility ahead of the 2024 UEFA European Championship.
It is said that, despite his reservations, the FPF has come up with a plan to entice Mourinho from Italy in a "timely manner", with Portuguese outlet A Bola reporting that they could consider appointing Rui Jorge, the country's U21 boss, until the end of the club campaign.
