Milan Star 'Makes' U-Turn On Int. Allegiance Switch To African Giants

After seemingly agreeing to switch his international allegiance to a two-time Africa Cup of Nations-winning country, an AC Milan star has reportedly made a U-turn on that decision.

After struggling for game time following his arrival at the San Siro from French side Bordeaux in 2022, Yacine Adli seems to have finally gained the trust of manager Stefano Pioli.

The 23-year-old started the 2023/24 campaign on the bench for most games, but has now been named in the Rossoneri's starting XI for their past nine league matches.

His newfound form, however, could be to the detriment of the Algeria national team.

According to La Gazette du Fennec, in March 2023, when the player was not getting regular game time in Milan, Adli's brother disclosed to the Algerian publication that the central midfielder would be making the switch from France to represent the Desert Foxes.

The Vitry-sur-Seine native's parents are reportedly from the north African nation, with it said former Algeria boss Djamel Belmadi was tasked with recruiting Adli, and fellow playmaker Houssem Aouar.

The latter has finalised the transition from France to the 1990 and 2019 African champions, playing a total of eight matches since, but Belmadi was not able to achieve success regarding Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate Adli.

His resurgence in form, as per L'Equipe, has now given him belief that he is able to force his way into the France national team.

Adli has previously represented Les Bleus from U16 level all the way up to U20, and having not yet officially committed to Algeria, it now appears he believes he can break into Didier Deschamps' France squad.
