On Thursday, it was announced that the 2022/23 Saudi Pro League champions had parted ways with manager Marcelo Gallardo.
The Argentine took charge of just 33 matches following his appointment in November last year and was expected to be in his role until 2025.
In quotes carried by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Al Ittihad president Louay Nazer said the 48-year-old's request for the "removal of Benzema" was a "significant mistake".
"Gallardo made significant mistakes by requesting the removal of Benzema, which is unacceptable," he insisted.
"He is an essential part of Saudi Arabia's and the club's project. We have two/three options for new manager."
Since joining Al Ittihad following his departure from Real Madrid in 2023, Benzema has endured a difficult time in the Middle East.
