Pioli, 58, returns to the dugout for the first time since he left AC Milan at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Al Nassr's new manager has previously only ever worked in Italy, where he has represented top clubs such as Lazio, Inter Milan and Fiorentina in the past.
The Knights of Najd have only played six matches this season, although they have picked up just two victories, and only one win in their previous five games.
Castro took charge of Al Nassr 54 times, winning 36 of those games and losing on nine occasions across all competitions.
