Los Blancos have signed Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao and Rodrygo, but manager Zinedine Zidane is reportedly looking to bolster his squad with the addition of a defensive midfielder.
According to El Colombiana journalist Jose Luis Vergara, Real have agreed a deal worth up to €75 million (R1.2 billion) to sign Fabinho from Liverpool.
"Exclusive: Total agreement between Real Madrid and Liverpool," Vergara tweeted on Tuesday night.
"Fabinho will be a Real Madrid player before the market closes. He will sign until 2024.
"The Brazilian player returns to what was his home for a season. The transfer will be made official when Liverpool (sign) a replacement.
"The Spanish club will pay €65m + €10m (in add-ons) and the player's salary will be €7.5m annually."

The Brazilian midfielder joined the Reds from Monaco last season and was part of the squad that went on the lift the Champions League title, beating Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the final.
Interestingly, Fabinho previously has played for Real, having spent the 2012/13 season in Madrid during a loan spell from Portuguese side Rio Ave, although he predominantly played for the Spanish club's reserve side.
The rumours have seemingly been dispelled by the player's wife, however, after she posted a "rolling eyes" GIF on Twitter on Tuesday evening shortly after the story broke.
