The dismal 4-0 loss to Barcelona this past weekend has prompted Los Blancos to do some serious introspection. It seems that the Spanish and European champions are preparing to pivot in terms of in terms of their ideal profile of manager.
It is understood that Ancelotti is not a manager whose entire philosophy is premised on tactics but according to Relevo, Los Merengues want a head coach who is able to find a balance between implementing a methodology of play as well as the one that embodies the mystique that the club has.
They have thus decided to push for Xabi Alonso to be their next manager come 2025. While the ElClasico defeat was not ideal, the same report claims that the club are not planning on firing the Italian anytime soon, but when they do eventually part ways, Florentino Perez wants to give Ancelotti an ambassadorial position out of respect for all he has achieved with the club.
The record UEFA Champions League winners do, however, want to take advantage of the availability of Alonso. The Basque coach is coming off a historic campaign with Bayer Leverkusen last season, going unbeaten to win the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, as news emerged a few weeks ago that he will likely leave the BayArena come the end of the 2024/25 season.
