The Reds have only added young Dutch centre-back Sepp van den Berg to their squad so far, with manager Jurgen Klopp said to be intent on only entering the market for the right players.
According to Spanish newspaper El Desmarque, it has now been claimed that Liverpool are willing to pay €75 million (R1.2 billion) for Los Blancos forward Marco Asensio.
Klopp reportedly sees the skilful left-footer as the perfect addition to his attacking line, and apparently believes he could be an adequate replacement for Mohamed Salah should the Egyptian get injured.

Real coach Zinedine Zidane, though, is reportedly not too keen on losing Asensio, despite the club trying to get more players off their books.
As a consequence, the Frenchman has asked president Florentino Perez to include Sadio Mane in any potential deal for the Spanish 23-year-old, according to the report.
Asensio, who joined Real for just €3.5 million (R55 million) from Mallorca in 2015, made 44 appearances for Real last season, but his development has somewhat stalled.
Liverpool, meanwhile, need to add more depth to their attack, with Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri the only experienced back-ups to the attacking trio of Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino.

It is understood that youngsters Ben Woodburn and Harry Wilson will be given a chance to impress in pre-season, but the Reds have also been linked with LOSC Lille and Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe.
